Reflection 2

You must read this book!

Growing up my parents did not allow us to have any pets expect for birds and fish. My brothers and I always wanted to have a dog. Now, as an adult I have two beautiful furry babies. Charlie is a 95 pound chocolate lab  and Oliver is a mixed maltese/poodle who weights a hopping 8 pounds. They are best friends…. Well sometimes…. Shhhh! don’t tell Charlie I said that.  They are the best babies every. They bring happiness into my home and I just love them so much. Recently, I read a novel called “UNSAID” by Neil Abramson. I can honestly say that this novel made in impact on my life in an emotional way. I never thought about how strong our relationships with animals can be and how we learn about their personality, emotions, and the love we receive from them. After reading this novel I realized that people and animals are similar in so many different levels.  The power of communication is the key for people and animals to understand each other. You see, it is how the message is delivered, received, and it matters that make a difference.  I found myself analyzing my babies more often.  I notice how Charlie has stressful days when Oliver gives him a hard time. Charlie has low tolerance when being picked on and loves going for rides. Oliver on the other hand adores attention. He is tends to be a bully with other dogs and loves to eat ice cream. I’m glad I read this book because I gave me the opportunity to communicate with my babies on a different way.

  1. Lourdes I love that you treat your dogs like your own children. Dogs are a lot smarter than what we give them credit for and my family says that the only thing dogs need left is to speak. The book Unsaid sounds so interesting that I want to read it! It warms my heart to know that you were able to connect with your babies on a different level. How you were able to get to know them as individuals.

  4. Hey Lourdes, I myself also wanted a dog along with my sister since we were young kids. Once we finally moved into a house my senior year of high school, I took the chance and rescued a pit-bull named Cali from the shelter. Its really cool how your able to distinguish your pets behaviors, the book sounds very interesting as well to get some more insight about our pets. Thanks...

  5. I personally didn't like dogs or any animal at all until my brothers got a dog that’s when things changed. First I would push her away all the time, but then when the dog would look at me with those sad eyes and would do funny things that I didn't know dogs could do that’s when I began to like her. Now I love that little dog; so now I understand what you mean lulu about being your babies and the thinks they do. Take good care of your dogs because they are like little people. I’m pretty sure you do though.
